Kelly Joe Phelps- Shine Eyed Mister Zen (1999)

Here is a guy who I've been really getting into the past few months. When I listen to him, I hear a Tom Waits who had never discovered the vices of alcohol and drugs. Not to say that KJP lacks that integral inhibition....his arrangements are loose and his vocals just kind of flow.
I've been hooked on this album around the midnight hour as I am hanging in that netherland of sobriety, slumber, and introspection.
If that means anything to you. You'll be seeing more of this guy on these pages in the future

Molina and Johnson....Johnson and Molina. Either way its probably the best man/man marriage to go down in history.

No, but really; Will Johnson ( Centro-matic) and Jason Molina (Songs:Ohia) get together and kick out a dozen jams? What an excellent idea. These two compliment each other with near perfection. Neither one comes across as overbearing towards the other. Its a wonder they haven't crossed musical paths before.

Kris Kristofferson- Closer to the Bone (2010)

Its funny- when we think of all our outlaw country heroes. we tend to think of the dead and gone. But there is something to be said for a dude in his 70's who , on all accounts, does not have to be doing this shit anymore. He could have hung up that old 6 string decades ago and lived a comfy life of Ensure and Florida off royalties of glories gone by.
Not this old boy. And even better, this album kicks asses on so many levels. Its warm. Its gritty. Its weathered. And its FUCKING GOOD.

Transmission: Hello again folks I've never met

Its been a few months since I've made entries here in Audio Detoxville. At the risk of skidding face first into the realm of self important and woe is me blogland, the time period that has inhabited my absence has seen loss. I lost a relationship; I lost a dope habit that was leading me to an early grave; and most recently I lost my job.
